Kapil Sharma and Sunil Grover have maintained silence about Gutthi's (a character played by Sunil) exit from 'Comedy Nights With Kapil'. While Team Kapil
felt that Sunil had cheated them by planning his own show, Team Sunil
says the decision was taken because his growing popularity didn't go
down well the makers and it was better to move out before the situation
worsened. However, the two have finally decided to break their silence.
Here's what they had to say:
Kapil says, "I'm still trying to figure out what went wrong. It started with contractual issues between Sunil and the channel. Later, I got this feeling that Sunil was disconnected from the show. He then wanted a break to travel. The next we heard was that he was planning his own show. So, I guess the association was destined to end. There is no bad blood; Sunil is like a brother."
Why did it take Kapil so long to clear the air? "I was busy with the shoot of the show since I had to travel to Australia. The network and the co-producers have been talking to Sunil, but it seems to have reached a deadlock," he says. However, a source from the show alleges, "The creative team wanted to cut down on Sunil's screen time as they were insecure. There were times when Sunil would sit with the creative team and discuss his act. But on the day of the shoot, he would see another actor deliver his lines. It was clear that they were looking out for his replacement."
Kapil refutes the rumours. He says, "I feel proud of every actor in my team. I am the content director and each character is etched out by me. I used to sit, brainstorm and write punchlines with Sunil. In fact, whenever he came on stage, I would sit back and enjoy because I personally appreciate his talent. How can one feel insecure about someone who is an intricate part of one's own project? Also, as a producer, it's my job to ensure that all our actors flourish."
Does he feel cheated by Sunil? "Every artiste has the right to grow. I had also left Comedy Circus to do something of my own. Sunil has been in this industry for long and he may have felt the same," Kapil says.
While many fear Gutthi's exit may affect the show's ratings, Kapil thinks otherwise. "I am not insecure about ratings; my biggest reward is that I manage to bring a smile on people's faces," says he. What if Sunil decides to return? "Our doors are always open for him. The only thing that hurts me is that he has gone too soon," Kapil says.

Money isn't the reason I quit: Sunil GroverSays Sunil, "I have left the show and want to do something else." Incidentally, his contract expired a month-and-a-half ago, but he continued shooting. It was rumoured that he had asked for an exorbitant amount, which led to his exit. "The money I asked for was reasonable and the channel agreed eventually. So, that's not why I quit. I don't want to say anything more as the show has made me what I am today," says he. "Is he planning his own show, similar to Kapil's, on a rival channel? "I can't comment on it right now," he signs off.
