Why would I get insecure of Gutthi’s popularity: Kapil Sharma

Kapil Sharma and Sunil Grover have maintained silence about Gutthi's (a character played by Sunil) exit from 'Comedy Nights With Kapil'. While Team Kapil felt that Sunil had cheated them by planning his own show, Team Sunil says the decision was taken because his growing popularity didn't go down well the makers and it was better to move out before the situation worsened. However, the two have finally decided to break their silence. Here's what they had to say:

Kapil says, "I'm still trying to figure out what went wrong. It started with contractual issues between Sunil and the channel. Later, I got this feeling that Sunil was disconnected from the show. He then wanted a break to travel. The next we heard was that he was planning his own show. So, I guess the association was destined to end. There is no bad blood; Sunil is like a brother."

Why did it take Kapil so long to clear the air? "I was busy with the shoot of the show since I had to travel to Australia. The network and the co-producers have been talking to Sunil, but it seems to have reached a deadlock," he says. However, a source from the show alleges, "The creative team wanted to cut down on Sunil's screen time as they were insecure. There were times when Sunil would sit with the creative team and discuss his act. But on the day of the shoot, he would see another actor deliver his lines. It was clear that they were looking out for his replacement."

Kapil refutes the rumours. He says, "I feel proud of every actor in my team. I am the content director and each character is etched out by me. I used to sit, brainstorm and write punchlines with Sunil. In fact, whenever he came on stage, I would sit back and enjoy because I personally appreciate his talent. How can one feel insecure about someone who is an intricate part of one's own project? Also, as a producer, it's my job to ensure that all our actors flourish."

Does he feel cheated by Sunil? "Every artiste has the right to grow. I had also left Comedy Circus to do something of my own. Sunil has been in this industry for long and he may have felt the same," Kapil says.

While many fear Gutthi's exit may affect the show's ratings, Kapil thinks otherwise. "I am not insecure about ratings; my biggest reward is that I manage to bring a smile on people's faces," says he. What if Sunil decides to return? "Our doors are always open for him. The only thing that hurts me is that he has gone too soon," Kapil says.

Money isn't the reason I quit: Sunil Grover

Says Sunil, "I have left the show and want to do something else." Incidentally, his contract expired a month-and-a-half ago, but he continued shooting. It was rumoured that he had asked for an exorbitant amount, which led to his exit. "The money I asked for was reasonable and the channel agreed eventually. So, that's not why I quit. I don't want to say anything more as the show has made me what I am today," says he. "Is he planning his own show, similar to Kapil's, on a rival channel? "I can't comment on it right now," he signs off.

Felt different seeing my name on top of a club: Sachin Tendulkar at MCA felicitation

Tuesday, Nov 12, 2013, 10:31 IST | Agency: ANI

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) on Monday formally renamed the Kandivili ground as the Sachin Tendulkar Gymkhana Club.
“ When I walked in, I felt different to read my name at the top of the club, not used to it. I felt very humbled. My association with Mumbai cricket started nearly 30 years ago. It has been a fantastic journey,” batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar said here today at the felicitation ceremony.
“I have to thank MCA for making facilities available to me at any hour. To retain sporting culture among the youth is very important. I appreciate not just this evening, but for the last 24 years,” he added.
MCA president Sharad Pawar said that Sachin is a perfect ambassador for the game of cricket in India.
“Sachin is a product of the Mumbai Cricket Association. Mumbai holds a unique place in Indian cricket, having won the Ranji Trophy on 40 occasions. He is a perfect role model. We will all miss the ‘Sachin, Sachin’ chants when he walks out to bat,” he said.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said: “We all rejoice at his success, stability, his hardwork, his discipline. Sachin has won the hearts of millions of ordinary Indians for over 24 years.
Players from both Indian and West Indian teams were present at the felicitation ceremony today.
Tendulkar had a great exit in terms of his IPL career for Mumbai Indians after being given an emotional send-off by his teammates, following their win in the Champions League.
He will officially retire from all forms of cricket following his ‘much awaited’ last Test match in his home stadium of Mumbai on November 14 against the West Indies, which is going to be his 200th Test.

People orchestrate mood changes in Bigg Boss house: Candy Brar

People orchestrate mood changes in Bigg Boss house: Candy Brar

Former model Candy Brar, latest to be evicted from "Bigg Boss - Saath 7", says she was a "nervous wreck" inside the house because of the atmosphere. She feels most of the contestants are actors and they manipulate their moods to be in the limelight.

"It was the atmosphere in there. Everybody was eager to make his or her presence felt. Most of them are actors, so they can orchestrate mood changes to suit their needs," said Candy, who was evicted Saturday.

"Someone like Aijaz Khan knows exactly how to manipulate his moods to provoke others. I couldn't do that. I am not someone from the limelight. I didn't know how to attract attention to myself. I didn't want to," she added.

This was not her first reality show -- she was the runner up of MTV's adventure reality show "Roadies 2".

But she feels that she is not cut out for something like "Bigg Boss".

"That place was not for me. I was there for barely two weeks, and it was suffocating. I just couldn't take it," said Brar, who currently looks after the business and marketing of Showman Entertainment.

"Not that anyone had a fight with me or was rude to me, or anything. Nothing like that. But there was so much negativity in there. If I had stayed one more week, I'd have fallen ill," she added.

Candy has no complaints against the contestants.

"They were all very nice to me. And I've come away with at least four very good friends - Armaan Kohli, Tanisha Mukherjee, Eli Avram and VJ Andy. And yes, from among the new entrants Sofia Hayat. Even the others were okay with me. Nobody raised his or her voice at me."

In fact, Armaan and Tanisha were heard imploring viewers to not eliminate Candy.

"Usually contestants go behind each other's backs and vote against the very people they swear are their friends. But here some of them were actually asking that I not be eliminated. It was heart-warming... but I had to get out."

Candy confesses that on many occasions she found herself on the verge of breaking down.

"I am the kind of person who gets nervous at the slightest of negativity. Very frequently in there (inside Bigg Boss) when tempers flew high, my heart started palpitating. I'd try to find a corner away from the camera to cry. Maybe I shouldn't have gone in there."

Candy says the reason she went in there was not money.

"Nowadays Rs.50 lakh can't even even buy you a home. So money was not the criteria. I went in there because someone I didn't know at all (Vivek Mishra) took my name in the context of (her ex-boyfriend) Kushal Tandon. I suddenly began getting calls from all and sundry asking what was that all about. I am not used to being questioned by relative strangers.

"I've a very small circle of close friends whom I'm comfortable with. Here I was suddenly getting calls and messages from strangers. I just wanted to go in there and confront this guy. And look at my luck. The guy, who had put me in a compromising position, left. So I was basically left to wonder what I was doing in there."

Candy comes away from "Bigg Boss" swearing never to be part of any reality show.

"I was on 'Roadies', but it was nothing like 'Bigg Boss'. Here everyone was constantly playing mind games trying to provoke one another for no rhyme or reason.

"This was no place for me... But it was a learning experience. I've come out maybe a little stronger. I value my loved ones even more now. I can't wait to meet my family again," she said.

Right now Gauhar Khan, Kamya Punjabi, Pratyusha Banerjee, Aijaz, Tanisha, Andy, Armaan, Elli, Sofia and Sangram Singh are battling it out inside the house.

Former model Candy Brar's stint at Bigg Boss - Saath 7 is over, but she doesn't think actress Tanisha Mukherjee will face the same fate anytime soon.
Apart from the Neal 'N Nikki actress, Gauhar Khan, Kamya Punjabi, Pratyusha Banerjee, Aijaz Khan, VJ Andy, Armaan Kohli, Eli Avram, Sofia Hayat and Sangram Singh are vying for the title.
Candy interacted with all inmates, but is convinced that Tanisha has a great chance at winning.
"Tanisha is very calm and handles things well. She also stands firm on what she believes. I also like Armaan but he gets involved in fights. But I think Tanisha will win," Candy said.
Bigg Boss is her second reality show after MTV's adventure reality show Roadies 2.
