Website selling tickets for Sachin's final Test crashes.
As fans are frantically looking to book a seat to watch Sachin
Tendulkar play the 200th and final Test of his career at Mumbai's
Wankhede stadium, Kyazoonga.com, the website selling 5,000 tickets,
crashed on Monday as tickets went on sale at 11am.
KyaZoonga was
appointed the official ticketing partner for the second Test between
India and West Indies, which will begin on November
14, by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA).
The prices of the tickets are
Rs. 500,
Rs. 1000 and
Rs. 2500. Only two tickets per person can be booked online.
Few tickets for public
The Wankhede can hold 32,000 spectators, but more than 80% of the
tickets are not sold to the public. Around 6,000 tickets are kept aside
for 300 affiliated clubs, another 6,000 go to the five gymkhanas and
6,000 more are handed to the Garware club.
Apart from these, a
few thousands are distributed as complimentary tickets, most of them
being cornered by government agencies like the BMC and police.
"We
cannot help it. We have to give tickets to our clubs and former
cricketers. They are our priority. Also, are they not part of the
public?" an MCA official told HT.
Disappointed fans
Fans are obviously unimpressed with the way tickets are being sold.
"Keeping so few tickets for the public is criminal," said Karanraj Churiwala, a 23-year-old student.
"What
is the use of hosting such a historic match if the ordinary man cannot
watch it from the stands?" added Pratik Kadam, a 24-year-old
professional.

The Director General of Police Ram Niwas has said that the police
recovered 15 to 20 IEDs in Sukma, Kanker, Dantewada and Narayanpur.
12:00 pm: Raman Singh claims high voter turnout
Chief Minister Raman Singh said that voting started at 7 am and at some
locations in Bastar there has been about 30 percent voting till now.
“Women have come out in comparatively large numbers early morning to
vote, the chief minister said.
“Voting has been peaceful.. There has been no major incident,” Singh
said.
11.36 am: By 11 am, voter turnout was 13 percent
Voter turnout until 11 am is 13 percent, said officials. There was
absolutely no voter turnout in 42 polling booths in Sukhma. These booths
are inside security camps.
11.30 am: Electoral officer says reports of EVMs being looted false
According to reports, Chief Electoral Officer Sunil Kujur spoke to the
district collector of Kanker, from where EVMs were reportedly looted by
Naxals. The reports are false and there was no looting, he has said.
11.25 am: Polling cancelled in two stations
Polling in the Durgapur and Pitram polling stations of Antagarh Assembly
constituency has been cancelled after polling parties failed to reach
the booths, reports Hindustan Times.
11.15 am: 8 IEDs recovered in Dantewada
Naxals had apparently placed 8 improvised explosive devices at locations
in Dantewada but they have been defused without causing any damage to
life or property.
“We have recovered 8 IED bombs… There has been no casualty due to them,”
a state government official told Times Now.
10:15 am: Naxals disrupt polling in two polling booths
Navbharat Times reports that in the first hour of voting the turnout in
Chhattisgarh was around 10 percent and in two places polling couldn’t be
started due to Naxals.
The newspaper tweeted that in the Bijapur district of the state there
are reports of a gun battle between Naxals and security forces. Naxals
had reportedly started a fire outside a polling booth and fled.
The Naxals also reportedly ransacked a polling booth in Koilibeda area
of Kanker and took away the EVM there, the newspaper reported.
10:00 am: Bastar SP says no violence reported in Naxal-affected area
The Superintendent of Police for Bastar has said that the situation has
been peaceful since polling started this morning.
“Area domination patrol which were going in for operation they have met
with naxaliteies and exchange of fire has taken in last 2 days but today
everything is peaceful till now,” he told CNN-IBN.
9:40 am: Maoists to use teenage bombers?
Will Maoists be using teenage recruits to disrupt the polls?
According to a Times of India report, the Naxals could use teenage
recruits in school uniforms to target security personnel and some could
pose as voters to attack polling booths.
Intelligence agencies have reportedly said that women cadre have been
surveying the preparations for the polls and the insurgents have over
20,000 kilos of explosives that they could use to target those
participating in polls.
“Recent Maoist literature also shows that Maoists are stressing on
intensifying mine warfare. Use of teenagers and male cadres posing as
voters to target booths is basically to handicap forces who will be
reluctant to fire on children and civilians,” an unnamed senior security
officer was quoted as saying in the report.

9:00 am: BJP denies assaulting Congress candidate in Jagdalpur
The BJP has denied the allegation that they were behind the attack on
Congress candidate Shamu Kashyap was beaten up and injured.
“Congress leader Samu Kashyap & others were distributing cash, saw
our cars & started smashing windows,” BJP leader Santosh Bafna told
ANI.
However, he didn’t explain how the Congress candidate landed up in
hospital with the injuries that he has.
8:30 pm: Policeman was removing bomb in Kanker when it exploded
A bomb laid by Naxals exploded in Kanker district of north Bastar where
polling is underway, police said.
The incident took place when the jawan was removing the bomb, placed
beneath the earth, for defusing near Parlakot village under Bande police
station limits this morning, Kanker Additional Superintendent of Police
CD Tandon
told PTI.
After administering first aid to the injured security personnel at a
local health centre, he was brought to district headquarters, he said.
7:45 am: Congress-BJP workers clash in Jagdalpur
According to a ANI, Congress and BJP leaders clashed in Jagdalpur area
of the state last night in which Congress leader Shamu Kashyap was
injured.
The Congress candidate has accused his political opponent of engineering
the attack on his convoy last night and is presently admitted in a
state hospital.
The candidate and his supporters had their convoy stopped by some men
and were beaten by his persons with sticks last night.
“They threatened us, told us to leave neta-giri,” Kashyap said about the
attack.

Marpakanju area of Kanker as polling begins. One BSF jawan has been
injured.
Times Now reported that Maoists attacked security forces in Kanker
district and a gunbattle between Maoists and security forces is
presently on.
7:00 am: 18 constituencies in the fray as polling begins in Chhattisgarh
Round 1 of the electoral battle in five states begins today with the
first phase of polling in the state of Chhattisgarh. The state, which
has a large tribal population, will decide whether Chief Minister Raman
Singh gets his third term at the helm of the state.
Voters in 18 constituencies of the state will cast their ballot on
Monday. There are approximately 30 lakh in these constituencies and
polling in 12 of the constituencies will end as early as 3 pm, reported
the Hindu.
A majority of the constituencies that go to the polls today were won by
the BJP in the 2008 polls. Among them is the constituency of
Rajnandgaon, from which Chief Minister Raman Singh hails. Three other
ministers from the state cabinet will also be hoping to hold on to their
seats.

Over 80,000 security personnel have been deployed to ensure that peace
is maintained. However, despite the high security two Indo-Tibetan
Border Police (ITBP) personnel were injured yesterday in an IED blast in
the Aundhi area of Rajnandgaon district.
The Hindu reports that close to 150 helicopter sorties will be made to
transport polling officials.
While the BJP government is fighting anti-incumbency by highlighting its
achievements in the social sector, the Congress has largely highlighted
central government schemes as its achievement. The Congress, that has
been beset by infighting, has also been highlighting the killing of its
senior state leaders by Maoists during a rally in May in the hope of
gaining sympathy from the state’s voters.
Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi also said that the murdered Nand
Kumar Patel would have become the Chief Minister of the state had he not
been murdered in the Maoist attack.
